There are many issues that continue to face our fast growing city. Our great city needs to have continuity and experience on the Council during this critical growth period. Frisco needs leadership, experience, integrity, vision, dedication, passion for our city, ability to work with others and the ability to make things happen. I have demonstrated time and time again that I possess those qualities and more.

I have been privileged to serve as your City Councilman since May of 2002 as well as in many organizations in Frisco. The “About” page lists some of the organizations I am currently involved with.

This community involvement has provided me with a valuable perspective on all major aspects of this thriving city. I have said many times that the only way to truly get what you want out of your community is to take an active role in defining that community.

You will find that I am an independent and open-minded person who will make myself available to all the citizens of Frisco. In fact, my company, the Matt Lafata Marketing Group creates a weekly email newsletter that reaches over 40,000 people and is probably the number one communication device in the City of Frisco. I listen to people’s needs and concerns and address them wherever possible.

Much of what I stand for can be summarized as quality of life issues….

I will continue to work for more open spaces, parks, the continued development of a hike and bike trail system throughout our great city, and recreational activities for people of all ages to enjoy. I will continue to work to preserve our natural resources and bring more beauty and cultural arts to our city.

I will continue to work for housing diversity – varying sizes of houses and lots – as well as a balance of types of houses so that we have something to offer for everyone.

I will continue to look for ways to improve our infrastructure – roadways, services, adequate water supplies and other utilities – so our citizens will not be inconvenienced. Roads are a very important issue with me and I will continue to push to get more road projects done in a timely manner. We continue to have more road and capital projects going on than any surrounding city and while it is a challenge to keep up with the growth, this is an area we will continue to concentrate on.

I will continue to work with the business community so that Frisco residents will have all the conveniences they could want without having to leave Frisco. This includes bringing more corporations and jobs to Frisco while finding the right balance so that the residential and business community can co-exist in harmony.

I will continue to work with the school system so that our children can continue to get the very best education possible. This includes supporting our school system wherever possible to ensure they have the land and tools they need to continue to build schools and facilities that meet the needs of our community.

I know is that the decisions we make today will affect our community, and our children's community, in the years to come. Do we dare to make the wrong decisions about our Frisco's Future? ! I say no! I say, look closely at the mistakes and the successes of other communities, so that we have a growing business community, instead of a decrepit downtown. A city that is laid out so that no part of it is left out from good schools, good roads, and good health care facilities. And finally, a city that is child friendly, instead of a place that kids want to leave as soon as they are able.

We are Frisco, a wonderful place where the trains first came through over 100 years ago. Today, we are the passengers from those trains that stopped here over many years. Some of us came from a few miles, others, more of a distance. But we all share one burning desire: to make this community, our community! To make Frisco a place that makes us proud. Together we can make all of this a reality where EVERY citizen benefits and enjoys the highest quality of life possible. Nobody should get left behind as we all move forward together.

I have spent the past 20 years building a number of successful businesses. Building a city is not unlike building a business. Now I want to continue to build Frisco, so that at the end of the day, we can all say, "Frisco works, I was a part of building it that way." I want to be the builder of Frisco…the builder of infrastructure, the builder of community, the builder of a DESTINY. A destiny that our children and our children’s children will benefit from.

I want people to look back at Frisco years from now as the model for ALL other cities. A city that is not only great to live in but one that is great to work, play and grow in. Join me in shaping this destiny. Because in the end, to do this right, I’m going to need your help. To make a city of which we are proud, we must all build it together.
